This series of photograph is to outwardly express how I feel in my everyday life: disguising myself as someone with different articles of clothing. As I feel strongly about this topic, I decided to use myself as the subject of the picture. In each picture I purposely used motion to blur out the “main focus points” such as the face to show how I am just blending in with everyone else, with no identity. As I dress for different occasions in everyday life, it is mimicked in these photos.
With each different set of clothing, each pictures is also covered up with a layer of the same cloths worn. Each layer of cloth is only focused at certain areas to purpose cover up the main subject to reiterate the point that we essentially use cloths to outwardly express something, to be identified as someone “part of the group.” As the texture is a big part of the photograph, I wanted to viewer to be able to physically touch them. To achieve this, I hung each pieces on hangers along with the pictures. To make it even more complete, I added each pair of shoes that are used in the photograph.
Only one set is different from others, and that is the “hair” set. This set is different because it is the most realistic representation of who I really am. But this society has shaped me in a way that even I am dressed in the most unappealing clothing, things such as my hair can still be my “cover up.”
